Due to the Double Aries New Moons, this Taurus New Moon is coming late in the Taurus Season. Coming out of our first Eclipse season, the cosmic timing of this stabilizing, calming Taurus fresh start is perfect. It’s been a bumpy ride for some of us, and now we have the opportunity to slow down, connect with nature, (both the natural world and our own) and focus on fortifying a solid foundation for the future.
The Moon is exalted in Taurus as this sign provides stability, comfort and nourishment to the lunar faculties. Taurus is a fixed earth sign associated with the material world, and as such, it represents our relationship with personal resources, self worth, and things that are tangible, physical and earthly. This includes our bodies, money, possessions and what ever is needed to not just to survive-but to thrive.
Taurus energy is practical, grounded, peaceful and stubborn. It is known to resist change, however it has no problem putting nose to the grind stone to get a job done. This sign is all about self sufficiency and how the ways we value ourselves show up in our lives. Therefore, this New Moon invites us to come home to the self and take stock of our lives. It's a time to assess what's working and what's not and make necessary adjustments. With the energy of Taurus, we can do this with patience, simplicity, practical persistence, and a steady approach.
The ruler of this Moon is Venus in Cancer. Venus in the sign natural ruler of the Moon brings out emotional sensitivity, nurturing, and a need for intimacy and security in relationships. There could be a focus of family matters, children or maternal figures at this time. Venus is coming into a square aspect with Chiron in Aries, combining the moody sensitivities of Cancer with the assertive, independent energy of Aries. Old wounds that need to be healed through self-assertion could be in conflict with feelings of dependency or vulnerability. Ultimately, this square invites a new level of emotional healing.
There is a significant stellium of planets in the sign of Taurus for this New Moon; The Sun & Moon, Uranus, Mercury, Jupiter and the North Node! This indicates Taurus themes have a lot of Juice for this Moon Cycle. Mercury is moving forward now in Taurus and beginning to pick up speed. It is still in the shadow of it’s last retrograde, so there are ideas and thoughts available to move ahead on things you may have encountered during the retrograde (April 21-May 14).
Mercury is in a 3° conjunction with the North Node, and 6° from Jupiter. This suggests Jupiter and Mercury are blending their energies in support of realizing the Taurus North Node mandates. Since the Nodes entered the Taurus/Scorpio axis in January, 2022, there has been a push to evaluate resources and make more sustainable choices.
While Uranus isn’t making any significant aspects with other planets in this moment, it is still co-present with the other Taurus players and lending its electrifying energies to this momentous New beginning. Uranus is known for bringing in the unexpected as well as sudden shocks or surprises. This New Moon may feel a bit unsettling or shake things up without warning.
The Moon is sextile to Mars in Cancer, offering a harmonious exchange of energy between feelings, drive and desire. Sensible worldly needs are highlighted and there could be opportunities that can help create reliable resilience. Mars in Cancer adds a layer of emotional depth to the practical Taurus energy, bringing a sense of nurturing and protection to our material pursuits. This aspect can also enhance practical planning and our intuitive abilities, allowing us to focus on generating stability and security for ourselves and our loved ones.
The Moon sextiles Neptune in Pisces. This aspect can induce ways to balance the earthly and spiritual facets of life, and stimulate empathy and compassion. It encourages manifestation through the the use of dreams, intuition and imagination, while remaining embodied in your physical heart center. Pay attention to opportunities that reinforces love, require creative engagement and build personal responsibility.
Mars in Cancer trines Neptune in Pisces, presenting conditions that can bring about boundless emotional healing and transcendence. This aspect encourages taking action on dreams or intuitive hits, as well as connecting more deeply with loved ones and your higher self. You may feel a heightened sensitivity to the needs of others or a desire to serve the greater good. Creativity, benevolence, and connection flow easily through this Mars/Neptune contact.
Jupiter just entered Taurus on May 16. Jupiter is associated with expansion, abundance, and growth. In Taurus, it can assist in bringing about growth, simplicity, stability and prosperity. It basically will be helping to make all Taurean themes bigger until May 25, 2024 when it moves into Gemini. This does include some of the things you may not want to increase such as obstinance, excessive caution and materialism to name a few. Over all, Jupiter in Taurus is considered to be mostly positive as it amplifies all the wonderful Taurus themes including steady progress, a sense of calm, connection with nature and grounded presence.
Jupiter is in a square aspect to Pluto in Aquarius. The planet of increase, augmentation, and optimism takes on, the planet of power, transformation, and intensity in two of the fixed signs. Jupiter in Taurus seeks comfort, pleasure, and tradition, while Pluto in Aquarius pushes for revolution, evolution, and unconventional ways of thinking. Tension or conflict could arise between what is required for stability, security, and material confidence, verses the need for innovation, progress, and society as a whole.
This is a slower moving aspect that was exact May 17 and is in Play through mid-June. It is associated with intense transformation and upheaval, particularly in areas related to finances, possessions, and personal values. There may be a need to let go of old ways of thinking and embrace new, innovative ideas. However, this process can be challenging and may require confronting deep-seated fears and insecurities. Ultimately, this aspect can lead to a greater sense of personal power and a deeper understanding of one's values and priorities.
Jupiter conjuncts North Node in Taurus and opposes the South Node in Scorpio. The North Node correlates with the direction of evolution, while the South Node represents our karmic past and things we need to integrate or release. The nodes are always in opposition signifying the ever unfolding navigation between the past and the future. We just had the final eclipse on the South Node in Scorpio in this Nodal cycle, and with this lunation, Jupiter joins forces with the Taurus North Node to help us confront fears and step outside of comfort zone to embrace new opportunities and experiences that align with tenable values and desires.
Mercury in Taurus sextiles Saturn in Pisces. This aspect could stimulate opportunities in a variety of manners. Sextiles are not the strongest energies. You actually have to do something to take advantage of whatever is being activated. For example, with Mercury and Saturn in their current positions, practical and reasonable thinking or conversations could inspire constructive, creative collaborations. In order to co-create, you need to do your part. One might also get ideas for a disciplined approach to artistic pursuits. Basically, there is a possibility for logic and the imagination the help each other out here through working together to build something of lasting value.
Saturn is also getting in on that Nodal Conversation at this New Moon, with a Trine to the South Node and Sextile to the North Node. The sextile aspect between Saturn and the North Node in Taurus suggests that practicality, stability, and material security are important themes during this time. This could be a good time to use your creative faculties and put in the hard work to build a solid, and perhaps more simple foundation. Saturn's trine aspect to the South Node in Scorpio can help us integrate past experiences into current efforts, and find ways to use our strengths and lessons from the past to help move forward in a more grounded, imaginative and effective way.
Conclusion
With the Moon Exalted in Taurus and the powerful Taurean stellium, the sign of the bull is the center of attraction in this new lunar cycle. Taurus works hard and plays hard, taking great delight in creature comforts, sensual pleasures, beautiful surroundings and the simple things. Our sense of self worth and individual values are governed by this sign. Taurus helps us cultivate stability, practicality, persistence, sustainability and abundance.
The UK’s famous catch phrase “Keep Calm and Carry on” truly captures the essence of Taurus. This phrase was actually used the first time when the British Ministry of information created posters to boost morale when war broke out in 1939. The first posters were released in June 1939, and were likely designed and printed during Taurus season that year. Uranus also happened to be transiting through Taurus very close to the degree it is located in at this New Moon. The South node was in Taurus, and the North Node was in Scorpio-opposite of what it is at this lunation. “Keep calm and carry on” resurfaced around 2018-2000 when Uranus was in the process of ingressing into Taurus. It really is a great mantra for this moon.
Since we are on the topic of historical relevance this Taurus New Moon has me recalling the children story “Ferdinand the Bull”. If you are not familiar with the tale, its basically a story about a powerful, giant yet gentle, sensitive bull who preferred to “to sit just quietly and smell the flowers. ” In spite of the pressure from the other bulls who spent their time running, jumping and butting heads, his mothers worries and the humans involved, Ferdinand ultimately remained true to his nature.
Another reason “Ferdinand the Bull” resonates with these times is the book, published in 1936, hit the international world stage and inspired many controversial political and ideological discussions. (Uranus was in Taurus, and Saturn was in Pisces at that time) Ferdinand’s pacifism was interpreted as a loaded political message. It was actually was banned in Spain and Germany, with Hilter declaring it to be “degenerate propaganda”. In 1951, (Pluto was in Leo then, opposite Aquarius-square Taurus) Hemingway penned a sort of “anti-Ferdinand” article for Holiday Magazine , using the story of the bull as a metaphor for gender and masculinity. This sparked a new kind of controversy involving this beloved children classic.
