The Scorpio New Moon on October 25, 2022 is initiating cathartic metamorphosis. Not only is the Moon conjoining with the Sun exactly at 2° Scorpio, they are cozied up with Venus, the current ruler of the North node (2° 08’ of Scorpio) The two rulers of Scorpio; Mars and Pluto are in-conjunct one another, yet both in aspect with Mercury in Libra. As if all those concentrated forces weren’t enough, this also happens to be a partial South Node Solar Eclipse.
Solar eclipses are like a new moon on steroids. This is a partial Solar Eclipse that will be visible in Europe, South/West Asia, North/East Africa, and the Atlantic. While total eclipses that are visible from your location are said to pack a bigger punch, it would not be wise to underestimate the potential forces of partial Solar eclipses that may or may not be seen from your place in the world.- especially if you have any planets or significant points in your chart within 8° on either side of 2° of the fixed signs; Scorpio, Taurus, Leo & Aquarius. Keep in mind, Scorpio Solar Eclipses of any caliper, in any location tend to be the most intense of all.
When Scorpio is involved, condensed, amplified, persistent emotions run hot and deep. The veil between worlds is thin, relaxing boundaries between the living and dead-literally and metaphorically. There is a supernatural, psychological, nuclear quality to this Scorpio Solar Eclipse New Moon that can be used or misused in the name of transformation.
You may get a general feel for how you might experience the energy of this lunation if you can recall what was happening in the time around any of the previous Scorpio Solar eclipses:
November 12, 1985
May 19, 1985
November 13, 1993
October 24, 1995
November 3, 2013
October 23. 2014.
Generally speaking, Eclipsed events don’t typically happen at the time of the lunation. The celestial energies trigger “the hand of fate”, which operates under divine timing. There is a wild card energy to eclipses that either bring something in, take something away, or both based on your soul contract. You may experience the results of an eclipse weeks before or months later. Whatever comes or goes will have the flavor of the lunation and will be beyond your control.
Considering there are on average 4 eclipses each year, you have already experienced the kind of energy generated through these events. Sometimes they bring challenges or insurmountable obstacles. Other times, fortunate circumstances or unexpected bounty seem to drop in your lap. It’s not uncommon to move through an eclipse feeling personally unscathed. What would be unusual is nothing changing. Even if you are not directly touched by this energy, it’s also happening on a collective level. It does seem there is always some type of collective “lunacy” that gets stirred up with eclipses, leading to broader consequences for the “herd”.
This is a South Node Eclipse, indicating “something” will come to an end or go from your life, whether you are ready or not. If you like it or not, you can rest assured that things or situations that get “cleaned -up” at this time need to go in order to clear the path towards your “true north”. Whatever this is for you may be related to the Taurus North Node Solar Eclipse that occurred on April 3o this year, or the Lunar Scorpio South Node Eclipse of May 16, 2022.
Solar Eclipses tend to involve situations that bring in fated events or encounters. Judith Hill describes them as power surges or power outages. Because the Solar light reflects on outside events, someone or something that is not you may play a crucial role in this eclipse. It is in Scorpio, so this could be an intimate partner, the bank, stock market, inhertiances, or someone you share or get resources from.
Scorpio is known for its transformative, cleansing, rebirthing and healing powers. It also deals with the shadow self, buried secrets, past traumas and anything considered taboo. It wouldn’t be surprising if things that have been denied or suppressed rise to the surface for a good-ol’ Scorpio dissection and overhaul. Whatever house Scorpio rules in your chart can point to the areas of life where you might experience this on a personal level.
Eclipses have always been considered powerful omens through out human history. The ancient Babylonians began tracking the long term cycles of eclipses which is known today as the Saros cycle. Each eclipse belongs to a Saros family of 71-73 eclipses that occur once every 18 months or so for a period of around 1280 years.
Obviously, none of us will see a complete cycle in one life time. However if you like history, it can be very enlightening to trace the origins and journey of each eclipse . This method of tracking eclipses has been recorded as a successful tool for accurate predictions through out the pages of History. It’s not just astrologers who find these cycles useful, as NASA tracks them as well. If you want to learn more about Saros cycles, below are some helpful links:

While there is so much more that can be said about eclipses, I want to get back to this potent New Moon! You may recall Venus was conjoined with the Sun in Libra at the Aries Full Moon a couple weeks ago. Now she is at 2° degrees with both of the luminaries in the sign of Scorpio. Not only does this emphasize the Venusian themes playing out in your life right now, it also brings in North Node and Uranus which is still in that square dance with Saturn in Aquarius.
This Lunation has 2 rulers; Mars in Gemini and Pluto in Capricorn. Mars is the traditional ruler, and some see it as a lower octave of Pluto. It is the planet of desire and war. Pluto is the planet of slow permanent transformation. Period. These lunar rulers are in-conjunct, indicating they can’t really see or comprehend what the other is doing. This doesn’t stop them from doing their own thing, however this aversion can make the energy a bit more frenetic.
Mars is slowing down quite a bit-almost at a standstill- getting ready for its retrograde at the same degree as this lunation. Pluto, which moves slow anyways, recently turned direct on Oct 8, and is still at the same degree. However, Plutonian forces are moving out and Mars is preparing to turn in on itself.
In addition to the in-conjunct to Pluto, Mars is squaring Neptune in Pisces and Making a trine to Mercury in Libra, which is in-conjunct to Neptune. This can make for some scattered, confusing thoughts and/or actions that could be easily be eclipsed through its own processes. With Mars in Gemini, plans, thoughts and hearts can change on a dime. With Neptunes involvement, revelations or insights may or may not be based in reality. It is highly advised to stay away from drugs, alcohol or other mind altering substances at this time.
Pluto is in a square aspect to Mercury. Even though it is in-conjunct Mars, Mercury is making a trine to the Warrior planet, which does offer opportunity to do some deep healing or shadow work for yourself and in your significant relationships. Mercury is key if you want to generate some cooperation between Pluto and Mars. It’s not a bad idea to question your own thoughts, projections and beliefs, or gather more facts and data. Be willing to change your mind, without being attached to its conclusions for now. Whatever you think you know is likely to change.
Venus in Scorpio is in her detriment, meaning normal Venusian functions/themes can be challenging. This isn’t helped by the close neighboring Moon who is in it’s fall, & also challenged by the deep Scorpio waters. Whilst Venus and the Moon are typically supported in the water element, the fixed waters of Scorpio can feel overwhelming, too intense, penetrating or concentrated for these two sensitive wanderers. The Sun is also in this mix, though it doesn’t have a lot of juice. This all points to the possibility of purifying, emotional catharsis.
Venus represents love, values, affection, money, beauty, and how we relate. In Scorpio, Venusian themes can get heated to the point of boiling over. Venus in Scorpio demands the whole truth, and real connection. Nothing less will suffice. This can manifest as all or nothing type scenarios that may involve obsession, manipulation, jealousy, purging or a metaphoric death.
The Myths of Persephone and Inannas descent into the underworld have a Venus is Scorpio vibe. Venus correlates with our personal values that inform self conception. In the underworld, the forces of life and death intermingle, making it possible to shed old trappings of identity, die to the old self, and be reborn. All the trials and tribulations of self actualizing transformational processes are Scorpios domain.
Summary
Like every lunation, this will impact everyone differently. You may already be feeling it now. Matters related to love, self worth relationships, finances, pleasure, sexuality, personal and/or shared resources may undergo tectonic or subtle shifts.
This is probably not the best lunation for setting a New Moon intention. With the Eclipse and all the other dynamics at play, a state of acceptance and allowing is a better way to go. Your soul already knows what it needs, though it may not be obvious in conscious awareness. This moon is guaranteed to respond to the whispers of your soul. If you can trust in the process, and go with the flow (even if it’s choppy), there is a real possibility for deep healing and transformation….and who can’t use some of that right now?
I want to leave you with Dane Rudhyars interpretation of the Sabian symbol powerful New Moon occurring at exactly Scorpio 2°.
A DELICATE BOTTLE OF PERFUME LIES BROKEN, RELEASING ITS FRAGRANCE
“ The accidental nature of opportunities that impel one to break away from a past, the remembrance of which is still poignant and cherished.
A new and greater realization usually demands the sacrifice of something which has brought loveliness and fragrance to a lesser form of living and feeling. Old feelings are poignantly remembered, even as one moves into a new and wider sphere of experience. Old relationships may be left behind, but the memory of their essential moments lingers on, perhaps strong and nostalgic.
It reveals the difficulty of dealing with the past as one enters into a new realm of feelings. To the excitement of novelty answers the memory of the graciousness of the past one has SURRENDERED.”
Wishing you beauty and ease
