The pioneering Aries New moon is occurring on March 31, or April 1, depending on your time zone. This is the first new moon of the astrological year, bringing fresh burgeoning energies.
This new lunation cycle can help activate fast and furious movement in spirited, initiatory ways.
The primal, fiery nature of Aries correlates with the warrior archetype. It represents the spark of personal desire and the fire than burns within. It is impulsive, impatient, self-focused and action oriented. Aries dives head first into new directions through impassioned expression of the self. Bravery, combat, leadership, courage, independence, aggression, instinct, confidence and risk-taking are all qualities associated with Aries
Looking at the chart for this new moon, you can see there is some very condensed aspects at play in a concentrated area of the chart. We have the Sun, Moon, Mercury and Chiron in a tight Aries stellium, stressing Aries archetypal forces. The moon is making no other aspects, so it is highly committed to self-involved impulses. In the spirit of Aries, I need to be straightforward and say this lunation does come with it’s fair share of challenging energy. However, it’s not all pandemonium, thanks to Jupiter moving into conjunction with Neptune in Pisces, which will be addressed in a bit .
First, I want to address Chiron’s close involvement in this New moon. A little over an hour after the conjunction with the sun, the moon joins with Chiron, and the following day, the sun makes exact contact. Chiron reveals our wounds and what is needed for healing. Chiron in Aries has a deep egoic longing to feel special, yet often highlights circumstances where we can feel damaged, or like an outsider. A big challenge with Chiron in Aries is that we can become overly identified with mental, physical or emotional injuries that were typically established in childhood. The gift of Chiron in Aries is that the wound is meant to become the medicine and one of our greatest healing gifts that we can share with others.
Due to its retrogrades, Chiron has already visited the exact degree of this lunation 3 times before. May 17, 2021 was the first time Chiron crossed this degree since entering the sign of Aries in April, 2018. It also crossed this degree Sept. 14, 2021, & March 18, 2022. If you can recall any challenges around your personal identity that you have been working with since late last spring, early summer, this lunation signals some type of culmination that will bring greater healing and self-empowerment to ego structures that will be fully illuminated after the Suns conjunction on April 2, 2022.
With Mercury in this lunar infused stellium mix, heated verbal exchanges could stoke the fires of desire or blow up in your face. Words can become weapons under this influence. Watch your tongue, and don’t take harsh words from others personally. If you do experience mental agitation or frustration, do your best to keep a cool, level head around this time. While triggers can be activated more easily with this energy, remember you have the sole authority to direct your thoughts and mind. Mercury in Aries can also lend itself to a razor sharp wit, clear and decisive communications and mental determination.
“The secret of change is to focus all your energy, not on fighting the old, but Building the new”
- by Dan Millman, author of Way of the Peaceful Warrior
There are other aspects at the time of this lunation that are strongly tied to this New Moon. The ruling planet of Aries is Mars, which makes Mars the ruling planet of this New Moon. Mars is currently in the sign of Aquarius. Aries and Aquarius are both strong freedom loving signs. Aries is the sign of “I am, and Aquarius is the sign of humanitarian efforts and social networks and structures. With the Moon in the “me” sign, and Mars in the “we” sign, it does contain a sort of electrical, aggressive volatility. Uranus, the planet of quick upsets and surprise rules the sign of Aquarius. There could be more unexpected disruptions or events taking place in the world, as well as unpredictable personal commotion.
The planet of authority and restriction -Saturn, is sandwiched midpoint between Mars and Venus, putting the focus on the responsibility of relationship and action. With Saturn 3° from either planet, it is bringing restrictions, delays or limitation to what we value and what we want. Insecure or unconfident authoritarian figures could become more explosive or combative during this time. Situations could arise where the could be more restraints imposed on our sense of freedom. Any desire to get on with it now will likely have to wait anywhere from a few days to a couple weeks.
Venus Moves into Pisces on April 6, which will bring a noticeable shift in the areas of relationship, what we love and our values. On n April 15, Mars moves onto Pisces which can bring about more compassionate, visionary action . Together, Mars, Saturn and Venus are squaring the Nodes at this New Moon.
We also have Jupiter applying to Neptune in Pisces, offering expansion in divine consciousness. This aspect is truly this lunation's saving grace. Never underestimate the enormous power of compassion, unconditional love, and the imagination. Jupiter will make an exact conjunction with Neptune on April 13, 2022 , which will only strengthen this hugely transcendent energy. While the first week or so of April may be challenging, Jupiter and Neptune are offering peace, optimism, heightened intuition, and buoyed cosmic unity. These two planets working together in the ethereal realm of Neptune can help soften any potential blows, or aid in dissolving anger driven conflicts. They are also making a trine to the South Node in Scorpio and Sextile to the North Node in Taurus.
Finally, we have the transformational planet of resurrection and rebirth- Pluto, making a trine to the North Node. Literally every planet is involved with this New Moon in one way or another. The strong Nodal involvement indicates the influence of evolutionary intent working through past and future factors. The Nodes work along the axis of what was and what will be. The South Node in Scorpio is insisting we deal with the real truth of all that has been denied and suppressed, in ourselves and in the collective. The North Node is guiding us to become more embodied in the beauty of nature and our physicality
Aries is the sign that represents the self. It takes courage and bravery to become your best self. We don’t grow or discover the full potential of who we are when things are easy. This New Moon can bring dynamic opportunities to uncover and empower the one and only essential you. Know that difficulties are not meant to consume or destroy, but to help breakthrough any challenges, limitations or deceptions that obscure one’s true identity. This New Moon may bring some precarious confrontations, throw downs or tests, however, it also supports bold determination, passionate gallantry, and grace.
There is so much potency available in this new lunar cycle to invite and attract more of what your better self truly desires. I will bring this to a close with 3 quotes from Anais Nin to help inspire your Aries New Moon Intention.
“Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one’s courage”
“We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are”
“And the Day Came When the Risk to Remain Tight In a Bud Was More Painful
than the Risk It Took to Blossom.”
