Throughout the ages, people of all walks of life have sought the guidance of astrologers. From Nebuchadnezzar to Ronald Reagan, even kings and rulers have taken advantage of their insights. In Rome, everyone who was anyone had their chart cast at birth. In fact, you were as likely to be asked, "What's your sign?" in Roman times as now! In Renaissance Europe, noblemen and popes kept a "house astrologer" on the premises to provide continuous guidance.

This guidance has never been more important or timely than now. As humanity turns away from science as a religion and searches for its spiritual roots, many are looking for deeper knowledge and insight than can be found in empirical science or psychology. Such understanding can be offered by astrology.

Astrology is the study of cycles. All things follow cycles, including people. To say that we do not is to ignore the obvious evidence of the daily, weekly, monthly and yearly rhythms of our lives. With astrology we also look at the cycles of life which are not so obvious, those that last two years, seven years, 30 years (and so on). The planets follow these cycles, too. It is much easier to track the planets in their simple paths than it is to understand how our actions flow in the same rhythms, with all our complexities. Because we have free will (and a certain myopia when it comes to observing ourselves!), tracking the planets allows us to see into our nature in a way that can make the difference between success and failure, however we define it. This is the core truth of astrology which makes it valid and has held humanity in endless fascination since we first began to see the stars.

Many people want to study astrology without the burden and benefit of the testing that leads to certification. You do not have to take the tests, and you may not wish to study as much outside class. Without the tests, you will not become certified, but you will gain an in-depth knowledge of astrology all the same!

...if you want astrology to enrich your current profession.

Regardless of your profession—attorney, businessperson, psychotherapist, healer, or physician, you can benefit from an understanding of astrology. Knowing astrology's rhythms and patterns and how they map themselves into people's lives gives depth and insight to your perception of others and assists in timing your actions.

...if you want to be certified.

Local and State laws generally neither prohibit nor encourage astrology; neither do they require certification nor licensure. However, most astrologers now recognize that this is a necessary step in gaining full legitimacy for the profession of astrology, one which will be taken in the near future. Furthermore, people usually take a person who is certified more seriously. Perhaps most importantly, it assures you of thorough and complete preparation in your chosen profession.

The Certification Program uses a testing series that has earned international respect; it is unexcelled in its thoroughness, fairness and accuracy in reflecting a person's true abilities. Anyone who has passed this testing program will be virtually guaranteed an open door to licensure when it is required. In the meantime, you will be ensuring yourself a comprehensive education, from planets to professionalism, in the budding field of astrology.

The program takes about two years to complete. All classes are offered on a part-time basis, day or evening; it is customary for students to carry on their other usual activities during their schooling period. It is a college-level course, with homework and projects.

Frequently Asked Questions

I already know a lot about astrology. Do I need to start at the beginning?

No. In fact, you do not need to take this program at all in order to take the tests—anyone may take the tests when they are offered. However, in self-study, you may find that you have gaps in your education that would make taking a course wise, even where some materials would be reviewed. What's more, most people find it easier, more motivating and enjoyable to learn in a group and have the materials presented in a structured, logical and entertaining manner that addresses your personal needs. You can be sure that you will learn the theory and application of astrology as well as how to make your business a success. Also, you may start the program at any level, but you cannot skip any tests. Finally, it is possible to tailor the program to your needs. Let's say that you know how to interpret a natal chart, but you do not know how to cast a chart by hand. You can take only those classes you need, or receive specialized tutoring, to prepare for the test.

What testing program are you using?

We are using the tests of the National Council for Geocosmic Research (NCGR), an organization dedicated to astrological education and research. There are four tests, after which you are certified as either a Professional Consulting, Research, or Instructing Astrologer.

Do I have to complete the entire program?

To be fully certified, you must pass all four tests. However, if you do not need to be fully certified— let's say that you work in psychology or healing—take only those parts of the program that fulfill your needs. You may take one or two tests, or just use the knowledge under the aegis of your existing certification(s).

How often is each course offered?

Currently, each course is offered about once a year. Therefore, it is best to try to rearrange your schedule to take the astrology course you need when it is being offered, rather than waiting a year. Let us know of your interest, so that we can begin new classes as soon as possible. Classes meet once a week for 2½ hours. Courses are generally 16 weeks long. (See the curriculum.)

How much work should I be prepared to do?

The courses in this program are as rigorous as a college course, and you should be prepared to do 3-6 hours of work outside class each week. The work that is assigned is designed to give you a broad base of understanding in astrology and to help you develop fluency in astrological expression. Those who do the work outside the classroom are more deeply satisfied with their skill level when they complete their studies and find the tests easier to pass.
